David Ng joined AHAM Asset Management Berhad (“AHAM Capital”) (formerly known as Affin Hwang Asset Management Berhad) in 2002 as Head of Equities and assumed the role of Chief Investment Officer in September 2006. In January 2018, he was made Deputy Managing Director, while retaining his position and responsibility as Chief Investment Officer. He personifies the investment-led culture of the firm.
David has been responsible for successfully steering client portfolios through different market cycles including periods punctuated by periods of significant volatility and uncertainty. His astute and decisive guidance has allowed the Company to remain ahead of its peers. Under his foresight and vision, the team has evolved from having a domestic focus to one with regional investment capabilities and corresponding track record.
The investment team’s search for alpha is centred around an absolute return investment philosophy. He encourages his team to have a 360-degree perspective by focusing not only on finding good ideas, but keeping their ears on the ground and their eyes to the world as well as being forward-looking.
He graduated with a double degree in Bachelor of Commerce (Accounting) and Bachelor of Law from Monash University in Melbourne, Australia; and is also a Chartered Financial Analyst® (CFA) charterholder. He started his career at a large law firm before venturing into fund management with a local bank-backed fund management house in 1998.

Esther Teo brings with her more than 18 years investment experience in managing both institutional and unit trust funds. She joined AHAM Asset Management in January 2004 as a portfolio manager responsible for managing the fixed income portfolios for the Malaysian institutional and unit trust funds. She is recognised by Asian financial markets specialist, The Asset, as one of the most astute investors in Malaysian Ringgit Bonds and most astute investor in Malaysia for the Asian G3 Currency Bonds categories respectively. The funds she and her team manage are constantly ranked amongst Malaysia’s top 5 and are well known for their consistent performance track record.
Prior to her tenure at AHAM Asset Management Berhad, Esther was attached to the fixed income desk of RHB Asset Management Sdn. Bhd. covering both institutional and unit trust mandates. She began her career in KPMG Malaysia as a consultant in financial advisory services specialising in corporate debt restructuring and recovery.
Esther graduated from the University of Melbourne, Australia with a Bachelor of Commerce degree majoring in Accounting and Finance and is a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) charterholder.

Dato’ Teng Chee Wai is the founder of AHAM Asset Management (“AHAM Capital”). Over the past decade, he has built the Company to be the fastest growing and one of the top three retail investment management house in Malaysia, with an excess of RM76 billion in assets under administration as at 31 December 2022.
In his capacity as Managing Director / Executive Director, Teng manages the overall business and strategic direction as well as the management of the investment team. His hands-on approach sees him actively involved in investments, product development and marketing. Teng’s critical leadership and regular participation in reviewing and assessing strategies and performance has been pivotal in allowing the Company to successfully navigate the economically turbulent decade.
Teng’s investment management experience spans over 30 years, and his key area of expertise is in managing absolute return mandates for insurance assets and investment-linked funds in both Singapore and Malaysia. Prior to his current appointments, he was the Assistant General Manager (Investment) of Overseas Assurance Corporation (OAC) and was responsible for the investment function of the Group Overseas Assurance Corporation Ltd.
Teng began his career in the financial industry as an Investment Manager with NTUC Income, Singapore. He is a Bachelor of Science graduate from the National University of Singapore and has a Post-Graduate Diploma in Actuarial Studies from City University in London.

Dr. Ong Kian-Ming is a former two-term Member of Parliament (MP) in Malaysia from 2013 to 2022 (MP for Serdang from 2013 to 2018 and MP for Bangi from 2018 to 222) representing the Democratic Action Party (DAP). He was the Deputy Minister of International Trade and Industry (MITI) from July 2018 to February 2020.
He was a former Fulbright Scholar and holds a PhD in Political Science from Duke University, an MPhil in Economics from the University of Cambridge, and a BSc in Economics from the London School of Economics. Prior to his political life, he was formerly a lecturer at UCSI University, a researcher at the Socio-Economic Development and Research (SEDAR) Institute and the Institute of Strategic Analysis and Policy Studies (INSAP) and a consultant with the Boston Consulting Group (BCG) in the Kuala Lumpur office.
He was an ASEAN Scholar in Singapore and completed his “O” and “A” levels in Raffles Institution and Raffles Junior College respectively. He attended primary and secondary school in La Salle Petaling Jaya, Selangor.
He enjoys jogging, watching movies and listening to podcasts in his spare time.

Dato’ Dr OOI KEE BENG is Executive Director of Penang Institute, member of the Penang2030 Advisory Committee (2018- ), and is deeply involved in various Penang State initiatives.
He was born and raised in Penang, received his PhD in Sinology from Stockholm University and has been working in think tanks the last 20 years, after lecturing in Stockholm, Singapore and Hong Kong, on Chinese and Malaysian history and politics. A regular columnist for The Edge Malaysia, he is founder-editor of ISEAS Perspective, published by Singapore’s ISEAS – Yusof Ishak Institute where he was Deputy Director (2011-2017); and of ISSUES Policy Briefs and Penang Monthly.
His books include The Eurasian Core and Its Edges: Dialogues with Wang Gungwu on the History of the World; As Empires Fell: The Life and Times of H.S. Leed; The Reluctant Politician: Tun Dr Ismail and His Time; Yusof Ishak: A Man of Many Firsts; In Lieu of Ideology: An Intellectual Biography of Goh Keng Swee and Lim Kit Siang: Defying the Odds.

Khoo Hsu Chuang is a financial journalist with twenty five years’ experience covering financial and capital markets in KL, Singapore, Tokyo, HK and London working for The Edge Communications, Bloomberg LP, Thomson-Reuters Plc and BFM Radio in print, newswire and radio/TV broadcast / web formats.
He has also been a Contributing Editor with The Edge, a columnist for Focus Malaysia newspaper and a co-host with BFM Radio, having also spent nine years in corporate governance advocacy as an analyst at the shareholder activist firm, the Minority Shareholders Watchdog Group.
